On the blog we’re usually focused on stunning tablescapes, unique florals, jaw dropping engagement shots and the various ways we tell our client’s stories on their day. Let’s be honest– talking about guest comfort isn’t sexy. BUT keeping your guests comfortable and happy is one of the most important ways that you can ensure your dance party lasts all night long, you have amazing memories with the people you love, and all the magic you’ve poured your heart into is worth it. We just so happen to have the best tricks for keeping the party going, so read on Loves!
1. Remember Transportation
Great transportation is key. When your guests are worried about how they’re getting to the venue, debating whether they should drink alcohol, and concerned about how they’ll get back to their hotels, they aren’t thinking about how amazing your wedding is and what an incredible time they’re having.
Curious about how to find the best transportation companies? There are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind. First, a standard precaution that should be taken is going to the actual office or garage where the vehicles are housed to see exactly what it is that you’re putting your money into and to get a visual of how much space you have to work with in your vehicle. Seeing the quality of a company’s vehicles in person is super helpful in making your transportation decision.
With professional transportation, you’re not just reserving a vehicle, you’re also hiring the expertise of a
local chauffeur who is extremely knowledgeable of the area and the venues that surround it. This makes
your trip that much more efficient. For our Northern California clientele, we often recommend Napa and Sacramento Limo. We love the modern features in their luxury vehicles, (and if we love it, your guests probably will too!)
2. Create Eye Candy
If your wedding looks boring, it can easily become boring. What we see with our eyes at a wedding is a major part of our experience– when you create a beautiful setting for your guests full of unexpected, personal vignettes and details, you’ll leave your guests wanting more throughout the day (and they won’t want to miss a beat!)
3. Keep Temperatures Comfortable
When guests are hot they long for an air-conditioned room, a cold drink, and to take off that heavy suit or sticking dress (aka, they want to go home.) When they’re cold, they crave a blanket, a heater and can rationalize skipping out on dessert.
Give your favorite people some love when temperatures become a bit extreme– cold weather calls for heaters, textiles, shawls and/or fire pits (plus lots of red wine, obvi.) In hot weather, beat the heat with cold towels, fans, parasols, umbrella coverage, lots of icy refreshments, and in extreme cases, professional misting services.
4. Make Them Feel Appreciated
Your loved ones have traveled from near and far to be part of one of the most important and anticipated moments of your life. Giving them a little TLC and appreciation can go a long way towards making them go the extra mile and stay till last call. Welcome swag bags in their hotel rooms, personal notes, special favors, and to-die for table settings can be the difference between being an exceptional host and one that’s sort of, you know, meh.
5. It’s All About the Feet
I can’t over emphasize this point enough. When your feet hurt, it’s over. Period. Our best advice here? Don’t interrupt the dance party– once guests stop dancing to catch a bouquet (or whatever), they stop and realize their feet hurt, and they decide it’s time to cut and run. It’s like clockwork. A few other tidbits:
- If your venue is outside or has uneven flooring, be sure to include that information on your wedding website so that guests know to wear appropriate shoes.
- Provide socks, flats or flip flops for your dance party if you’re feeling generous.
Whatever you do, PROTECT THE FEET. You’ll thank us later when you have film footage of epic dance battles and images of perfect smiles long past midnight.
Happy dancing friends…
